notes & things | 9/15/2025
This past week all in all has seemed even stupider in the public arena than usual. I am keeping my eye on the prize (even if there is no real prize) and focusing on writing and editing, including correcting galleys on other people's books and my own. The weather has been cool and mild, and I even needed a jacket last week for a movie outing. I am not quite ready to give up the sundresses for sweaters just yet, however, since its supposed to warm up again this week while September does what it always does.
Today, over on Patreon, you can get a look at the e-version of GIRL SHOW, which went recently out of print from Black Lawrence and landed back in my lap. I thought about making a print version, but I actually still have a decent stash of signed physical copies I made available in the shop for anyone who prefers paper to screen. The e-version, however, is free to digital tier subscribers and above. In Patreon news, I also finished final edits & tweaks on the deluxe edition of EXOTICA, which is ready to order and will be making its way out to subscribers at the end of the month. Amazingly I was tempted, but refrained from, making any edits in the poems themselves, which after almost two decades since the very first poem written in the manuscript, was something in a few cases I may have wanted to do. The road to initial publication was a long one. I finished it in early 2007, when it was my thesis. There's that version which took into account recommendations for edits made just to get the hell out of the program and then the version I actually sent out a year later. The publisher of my first book took it, but then closed before it could be released. Thankfully, after another couple years, BLP offered it a home at a point when I was wondering if I even still wanted to be a poet. Putting out a new edition, even if electronic, allowed me to showcase some of the art that I created back in 2012 throughout, which originally included the BLP cover art.
There are still good things even amidst the horrors. J made amazing French toast this morning and we're looking forward to a theater outing this week, a D&D themed show downtown. And today, I was greeted with an acceptance for some of the oceanic poems from deepwater which was a welcome treat after two rejections of poems from other projects over the weekend. Last week, at some point I was simultaneously patting myself on the back for actually getting some more new work out, and two hours later wincing from two different "no"s from earlier subs that I was sure would be yeses, but such is the life of the writer.
Poems in the new project are still coming, if not daily, then every couple of days. I am also working on an e-zine that I hope to finish designing this week. Since my efforts have been a mire of design writing and chapbook editing the past couple of weeks, I am moving slower than expected, but I'm hoping to wrap it up this week and share it before the end of September, especially since I have some other #31daysofHalloween goodies coming in October.
