wedding weekend recap
It has been a whirl and a wonder of a week, which involved, in no particular order, a hasty last-minute shift of wedding venue, a reorganization of the menu, considerable amounts of tequila, one very beautiful and bougie hotel, my first attempt at karaoke, and, of yeah, 95+ degree heat on the daily that made all of things more challenging than they should have been.
Last Wednesday morning, I realized that the planned park setting, while one of the most beautiful places I have been, was not gong to work once the mercury climbed above 90. I had planned for maybe temps in the 80s, maybe even rain or storms, but it was the kind of expected heat that could have been deadly at worst, highly uncomfortable at best. While I initially frantically had suggested we do the official stuff on Saturday and postpone the picnic festivities til September or so, J was able to somehow miraculously find an alternate location in the same town that was open Saturday and somehow even in our remaining budget. Thus, the end of the week meant lots of communication of the change to guests, much logistical chaos, and, one of the biggest challenges, turning 10 rectangular table centerpieces into 10 circular table centerpieces for a banquet room I hadn't even seen.
In the end, we had way too much food and cupcakes, but everyone seemed to have a splendid time, safely tucked away in the A/C-ed interiors. The change did give a little more leeway on the menu and having to keep things in coolers, which we wound up sticking to a picnic theme with simple sandwich platters and fried chicken. I ultimately decided on the black sundress and my hair up, mostly because of practicality---a good thing since even before the party started I managed to spill both punch and juice from a jar of pickles on it.
We were exhausted by the time we made it back to the city and stashed all the leftovers, then headed to our fancy shmancy hotel room downtown in the loop. The karaoke after party was a nice way to end the day with some cocktails, and I may have even made my debut with a little Stevie Nicks action. We opened a bottle of Prosecco at the hotel and then crashed out for the night. The next two days were lots of delivery and room service, happily canceled plans to go to a play we had tickets for (we will hopefully still be able to see it before the summer is over), a few horror movies (I had yet to see the second 28 Days film, so wanted to see it before we go see the new installment this week. )
Yesterday, it was back to the real world, but I am taking things slow, taking breaks to round up pics from the weekend and share them on socials, trying to put the chaos of the apartment back together, and getting ready to write some thank you notes. Tonight, we made margaritas in the blender we got as a gift and it felt like a very married thing to do....
