something we can all get behind

Whichever side of the experimental vs. quietude divide you happen to fall on--you have to agree that this is really an awful poem. Shame on Jarman. Shame on the Southern Review. Shame on Poetry Daily. Is there some monkey picking titles out of a hat?

On the plus-side it made me feel infinitely less critical of the crappy poem I wrote this afternoon...

having workshopped in prague with Jarman, and having read that poem in The Southern Review, it really is the worst poem I've ever read by him. I think it was published because he and the editor, who was also in Prague, are good friends. And now I believe him when he said he didn't have anything we could use for CPR last fall! The other poems by him in that issue, also not his best. But I love his work still. And that poem in particular gave me motivation in May to submit to them. That and the various good poems in the issue.

chris--

Yeah, I'm not too familiar with Jarman, but, hell, this is terrible. Hopefully not representative of his work in general. But here's to hoping the editor of SR won't be too busy publishing his friend's mediocre poems to publish the geat ones you wrote...
